Your favorite sandals are now more padded and perfect for going out

Don’t try to overlook this trend. The obsession for padding settles in your flip flops and now it is our feet that deserve to be renewed after months in confinement. And if you still don’t know which pair of flip flops replacing your ever-faithful Birkenstock Arizona, it’s because you haven’t yet seen the new version of this classic double strap, in leather and with the iconic buckles.

As happened to many of us in our forties, the Birkenstock sandals (which we wear at intimate summer picnics in 2020), gained some extra weight, one quite padded, and this makes them look great. Especially the trendy mule sandals for summer 2021.

The Beachcomber is one of these models developed by Birkenstock in collaboration with the artist and designer Faye Toogood. This is how this ‘fluffy’ version of the classic Arizona was born. The brand also describes them as ‘foot pillows’. This pair is crafted from premium nappa leather and features a cork-latex-suede blend insole.

This makes flip flops are irresistible and that you don’t want to take them off as the new normal begins. The other pair is named The Mudlark, and it is available in black, chalk white and although it is less padded, it is still very statuesque. Although if you prefer something more subtle, these strappy sandals are also worth checking out for 2021.

This collaboration makes something very clear: the padded footwear will be the great trend in 2021. Do not lose sight of the flip flops thick straps, but very sporty, by Jil Sander. If you don’t recall, they added two new styles to the 2021 resort collection: a chunky open-toe pair and a more triangular design, both with a sturdy sole.

‘Obviously we were imagining day-to-day life more than dressing for special occasions, so certain decisions were made through the lens of everything we would need or want in the immediate future,’ they told Vogue, Luke y Lucie Meier, the husband and wife duo led by Jil Sander; after his minimalist parade and with fluffy shoes.

The creative director of the firm Bottega Veneta, Daniel lee, has also been at the forefront of this movement with padded accessories. We need to travel back in time when he presented his bags Pouch Y Cloud (ya best-sellers). Sus flip flops, also with bulky proportions, they are equally popular with fashion editors, influencers and Hollywood celebrities.

Since Scandinavian fashion bloggers were the first to succumb to the new style driven by Bottega, it is no wonder that the Danish influencer Pernille Teisbæk joined forces with the firm Gia Couture to create their own line of padded heels. In addition to a version of rain boots, Teisbæk presented flip flops with restrained heels and padded straps in different color combinations.

Back at ground level, we also have the sandalias Noah from The Attico firm, which recently wore Hailey Bieber. Ideal for a relaxed walk in the Los Angeles sun, this model joins another big celebrity favorite when looking for shoes from The Attico. We talk about Devon heel, which is also reinvented this season with a padded version).

If you have post-quarantine anxiety, a good pair of padded sandals could cushion the blow.
