WHO reports record of deaths from Covid in the last 24 hours

Geneva.- The World Health Organization (WHO) reported 13,997 deaths in the last 24 hours today, the highest figure in a year of Covid-19 pandemicTherefore, the total number of deaths since the beginning of the health crisis amounts to 1.8 million.

Cases of Covid-19 touch 82 million, 693 thousand of them registered in the last day, an increase with respect to previous days but which has not yet reached the record figure last December 20 (841 thousand infections in one day).

America, which reported 6,300 deaths on the last day of 2020, adds 858,000 deaths, while Europe registered 5,900 deaths and adds 582,000 since the start of the pandemic.

The United States continues to be the country with the highest number of deaths (335 thousand), followed by Brazil (193 thousand), India (148 thousand) and Mexico (124 thousand).

They are followed by four European countries: Italy (74,000 deaths), the United Kingdom (73,000), France (64,000) and Russia (57,000).

Recovered patients on the planet amount to 59 million, while of the 22 million active cases, 0.5 percent (106 thousand) are in serious or critical condition.
