At least one person was killed and five others injured, including a police officer, after a shooting by an attacker at a furniture store in Bryan, Texas, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Houston.
Bryan Police Chief Eric Buske told reporters the suspect is an employee of the business. Kent Moore Cabinets.
The man has been identified as Larry Winston Bollin, 27, of Iola, Texas. He’s being held on a $ 1 million bond.
The attacker escaped when police arrived on the scene, Buske said, but he was arrested hours later. The shooting occurred in the afternoon in the loading area of a plant where furniture is assembled.
Business employees were interviewed, said police Lt. Jason James, and witnesses had identified a suspect.
“At this site, when the forces of order showed up, it was over,” he said.
The attack occurred shortly after the Governor of Texas, the Republican Greg Abbott, will tweet against the measures announced by President Joe Biden on gun control. “Biden is threatening our Second Amendment rights,” wrote. “He has announced a new liberal attempt to remove our weapons. We will NOT allow this in Texas. It’s time to get legislation to make Texas a Second Amendment sanctuary state and have my office ratify it. “
Biden announced the measures after the United States recorded at least two shootings with more than eight victims: one against spas and massage centers in Atlanta and another against a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, in less than a month.
Hours later, Abbott’s office released a statement about what happened in Bryan, where he avoided referring to the tweet he had written shortly before the event. “I have been working with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Rangers in their efforts to assist local authorities as a rapid response to this criminal act,” he stated. “His efforts have led to the arrest of the main suspect. The state will assist them in all the necessary ways to prosecute the suspect ”.
