“We understand their anger”: Britons are fleeing Swiss quarantine

British flee from Swiss quarantine

Because of the new corona mutation, the Swiss government is ordering at short notice that all guests from Great Britain who have entered the country are to be quarantined retrospectively. Most holidaymakers, however, have little understanding for this – hundreds disappear from the ski resort of Verbier in a night and fog action.

Hundreds of guests obliged to corona quarantine have disappeared in night and foggy actions from the Swiss ski resort Verbier, which is very popular with the British. Some have now reported from France, said Jean-Marc Sandoz, spokesman for the municipality of Bagnes, to which Verbier belongs.

The authorities had identified 420 guests from Great Britain who had to be quarantined before Christmas. About 50 left immediately, and of the 370 others, fewer than a dozen were still there on Sunday. “We understand their anger,” said Sandoz. He sharply criticized the hastily and retrospectively introduced quarantine requirements for travelers from Great Britain.

On December 20, Switzerland stopped all flights from Great Britain – and South Africa – because new and suspected highly contagious variants of the corona virus had been detected in the countries. On December 21, they ordered all those who had arrived since December 14 to be quarantined retrospectively for ten days from the date of arrival.
