President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, together with his wife, Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, planted an ahuehuete tree in the Nezahualcóyotl Garden, in the National Palace, for two reasons, mainly in honor and memory of the more than 120,000 people who have died from COVID-19, secondly, for a prosperous new year.

“Many lost their lives, our relatives, friends, acquaintances and in honor of them we are going to plant this ahuehuete here in the National Palace, and we are also planting this tree also in the future thinking that in 2021 we will all go better, which is what Beatriz and I want with all our hearts”, He pointed.

The president said that planting the tree symbolizes the future, thinking it will be better for all the people of this world, without making distinctions of class, nationality or any other political reason.

“When I speak that we want all of us to do well, it is that, for all: our adversaries, our friends, all Mexicans, all human beings, we have to love and hug each other, and we have to have faith”Said the federal executive while preparing to start planting the ahuehuete.

For her part, the writer and researcher, who helped plant the tree, pointed out that those of us who are here have a human responsibility to move forward, taking the good and bad things that have happened.

“Those of us who are alive have a great commitment to continue this human task, as a country, as a family, united looking forward, collecting all the good that happened and how are we going to plant this ahuehuete sowing hope, illusion, and he I wish everyone that they do very well, very, very well”, He asserted.

The president recalled that in 1921, when the first centennial of Mexico’s Independence was celebrated, it was decreed that the ahuehuete is the national tree. In this sense, the tree also represents that in “this 2021 the 200 years of National Independence will be commemorated.”

López Obrador pointed out that it is possible that the ahuehuete was chosen as the tree of Mexico, because it was in one of these that the historic sad night occurred, at the time of the Spanish conquest, when Hernán Cortés and his soldiers were defeated by the Mexica.

It should be remembered that this morning the Tabasco announced that he would plant the ahuehuete in the National Palace, pointing out that it is “Very sad, it is the (problem) of the pandemic, which has caused the loss of human life. We are facing it every day and now there is a light that indicates that we are going to leave the tunnel in which we are due to this tremendous pandemic, due to this virus, that light is the one that already has the vaccine and we have already begun to apply it in our country, and we believe that we are going to have enough doses to protect our people ”.

After that, he pointed out that another batch of Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines will arrive in Mexico next Tuesday, and that in the course of this week will be confirmed “the acquisition of 12 million doses for three months of the CanSino vaccine, 12 million for three months, from January to March, that is, it will reach us all ”.

Despite this, he urged the population to continue taking care of themselves and applying sanitary measures to mitigate infections, since the vaccine, although it is insured for the entire population, will be applied in a process that will last several months.
