Genthin – A young man (18) was killed in a terrible accident on Friday evening. He died on the back seat of an Audi, the driver (20) and front passenger (16) survived seriously injured.
According to initial information from the police, the car suddenly left the road at 8:38 p.m. in a curve at the exit of Genthin on the B1 and collided with a tree.
When the emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, the 20-year-old driver was lying seriously injured next to the car and his passengers were trapped in the demolished wreck.
The 18-year-old in the back seat was instantly dead. The 16-year-old passenger was saved. The two survivors were taken to hospitals. According to BILD information, the 16-year-old suffered life-threatening head injuries.
Rescuers knew the young people personally
“It was not an easy mission for us,” explains Achim Schmechtig, the city brigade manager of the Genthin fire brigade. “Some of our younger comrades knew the accident victims. We are a small town here. “
After the accident, it continued tragically: Since the young men came from close by, relatives also came to the scene of the accident – after all, they had to be looked after by pastors from the crisis intervention team.
The police are now investigating how the accident happened. By order of the public prosecutor’s office, an expert was called in to reconstruct what had happened.
Firefighter Schmechtig is certain: “The vehicle must have had a correspondingly high speed.”
The Audi was massively damaged in the accident and, according to initial investigations, turned several times before it hit the tree with its left side. Torn off vehicle parts flew about 30 meters. The exit sign was also carried away.
