Lightning struck a recreational property in the town of Plottier, in the province of Neuquén, and killed an 11-year-old girl, while other people were injured.
The tragic event occurred this Saturday around 7:00 p.m., in a property that belongs to the UPCN state workers union, located in the La Herradura area. Lightning struck a tree and the shock wave caused serious injuries to the girl, who died despite the resuscitation maneuvers that they carried out before and after transferring her to the Plottier Hospital.
In addition, a 24-year-old girl, who according to what happened was the aunt of the deceased minor, suffered serious burns on her legs and was also hospitalized.
According to Commissioner Rubén Escobar, coordinator of Security in Mexico, the fatal victim was not with the parents, but with other relatives who they were struck by lightning as they left the premises, at the request of UPCN personnel, who had already warned that the unusual storm was approaching.
“It was an unforeseen tragedy, since this type of storms is not normal in this area, which is very dry. There is no more than 250 millimeters of rain per year”Escobar said in statements to the TN channel.
The prosecutor María Eugenia Titanti intervened in the incident, and ordered that an autopsy be performed on the body of the deceased minor.
