Mexico City, December 28 (However) .- The Government of Guerrero announced this day that as of Tuesday, December 29 will temporarily close the Beaches to avoid crowds for the end of the year celebrations.

During her daily conference to discuss the issues of the pandemic, the general director of social communication of the state government, Erika Lürhs, pointed out that starting at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, the beaches will be closed “to avoid contagion and take care of health of families ”.

“We know that many of us like to receive the year at the beach, but this year it will not be possible, we ask it mainly to take care of the health of your family and yours”, explained Erika Lürhs.

He recalled that it is estimated that around 300 thousand people gather on the beaches, just in Acapulco, to observe the pyrotechnic gala that has been used for 20 years, but this time it was canceled precisely because of the epidemic that today adds 25 thousand 746 confirmed cases and 2,676 accumulated deaths in the state.

The Secretary of Tourism, Ernesto Rodríguez Escalona, ​​recalled that in the current administration of Governor Héctor Astudillo Flores, the fireworks display was expanded to 12 locations, including the beaches of Puerto Marqués and Bonfil in Acapulco, as well as in Coyuca de Benítez, Tecpan, Marquelia, Iguala, Chilpancingo and Taxco, “but this time it won’t be possible.”

And it is that just a couple of days ago, thousands of people visited the beaches of Acapulco, in Guerrero, when several entities in the country are on alert due to the increase in COVID-19 infections.

Photographs by Carlos Alberto Carbajal and Elizabeth Ruiz, from the Cuartoscuro agency, show tourists enjoying the paradisiacal destinations. Some wear face masks, but others don’t. Some respect the healthy distance, but most do not.

Guerrero is in the orange color of the Epidemiological Risk Traffic Light until next year.

At the end of June, the municipal Secretary of Tourism, José Luis Basilio Talavera, confirmed that the beaches would be opened with restrictions, there would be no beach furniture or gatherings for more than three people, only swimming, walking or running would be allowed.

In statements by phone, he indicated that the public security forces that make up the Coordination Table for the Construction of Peace would be in charge of ensuring that restrictions on beaches are respected, while the state and municipal authorities would be in charge of verifying and supervising that hotels and restaurants comply with the sanitary filter to reduce the risk of contagion of COVID-19.

For that Thursday, July 2, the state and municipal governments agreed to reopen tourist activity, but limited to 30 percent of the capacity of hotels and restaurants. He explained that they would open all the beaches of the port and all the hotels and restaurants, but they should not exceed 30 percent of their capacity. After four months, tourists and authorities forgot about the measures and Acapulco was back on top.

With this, it will be the second time during the pandemic that the beaches are closed, in order to avoid an increase in infections by COVID-19. The first time was on April 5, when the pandemic was in phase 2.
