Last December 24, Ruben Alejandro Rivas, 46-year-old, a senior police station in the Buenos Aires Police, took advantage of his franc to go to greet his mother and sister at their home in San Justo. Rivas had left his Chevrolet Aveo parked on the sidewalk. Around 20, while the policeman said goodbye to his relatives he was surprised by a group of thieves aboard a Fiat Siena who tried to steal his car. There he identified himself, took out his 9 mm caliber Bersa Thunder pistol and a shooting began that ended with the policeman being shot three times to the chest and the criminals escaping in Siena.
The investigation for the crime was in charge of the prosecutor Federico Medone, head of the Thematic Homicide Prosecutor’s Office of La Matanza, who in the last hours found one of Rivas’s alleged murderers: Pablo Ariel Papadopulos, 27, who, according to judicial and police sources confirmed to Infobae, is the cousin of Ricardo Emanuel Papadopulos, the 21-year-old who last December 17 ran over and killed Isaac Sus, 5 years in Flores and who after being a fugitive for several days turned himself in to justice on Christmas morning.
As confirmed by sources in the case Infobae, it all started on December 23 when supposedly Pablo Ariel with a group of thieves they stole a Volkswagen Amarok pickup after a shootout in the area of La Tablada. After the victim’s complaint, the police officers who approached the scene of the incident seized a pod to carry out the corresponding expert reports and the seizure of the vehicle was ordered.
Three days after that robbery and after having allegedly participated in the Rivas crime, Papadopolus aboard the stolen Amarok tried to avoid a traffic control in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Avellaneda, collided with a pizzeria and was arrested.
Once he was arrested, the police registered that the truck had a kidnapping request for the robbery in La Tablada issued by the UFI No. 5 of that district. At that moment, the young man was charged with a cover-up, after having denied participating in the robbery.
While that situation was happening, following the order of the prosecutor Medone, the DDI of the Slaughter he analyzed the security cameras in the area at the time of the Rivas crime and also looked for similar robberies in the vicinity of the place. Thus came the theft of the Amarok, which occurred the day before the murder. Then he discovered that these criminals had intercepted the owner of the truck with the same Fiat Siena with which they robbed and murdered the police officer Rivas.
With that information, Medone requested a ballistic match between the pods found at the Rivas crime scene and the pod kidnapped in the Amarok pickup robbery.
This morning, that analysis yielded a result “100 percent positive ”, an investigator assured Infobae. In other words, they used the same 9-millimeter pistol in both events.
After obtaining this proof, he located the different owners that the Fiat Siena had had, since it had been sold on several occasions: one of them stated that he had sold it to Papadopulos at the end of 2019.
Later, a witness very close to the young man, told in court that Pablo Ariel was moving in that car and that it was his. Papadopulos, for his part, has a rich criminal curriculum: he is charged with causes for robbery and aggravated injuries, as they assured this medium.
Given this, the prosecutor Medone ordered the arrest of the young man for the crime of Rivas and accused him of aggravated homicide in criminis causa, that is, killing to hide another crime, which provides for a life sentence. In addition, Medone ordered two searches of their homes that he carried out the DDI of the Massacre where they found a 7.65 caliber pistol. They suspect Papadopulos was also engaged in the sale of used vehicles, since in the operations the police officers found at least 16 cars.
At this time, the young man is arrested in a Buenos Aires city hall. Tomorrow, the prosecutor Medone will take an investigatory statement to give his version of the events while he continues the search for the rest of the gang that participated in the Rivas crime.
