They are considered “unclean” – Iran wants to punish pet-keeping

They cuddle, they are loyal, they always stand by their people’s side and give them what money cannot pay for. But keeping a pet or taking a dog for a walk should be forbidden and punishable in Iran!

According to media reports, the hardliners in the Iranian parliament prepared a new draft law on Wednesday. Accordingly, a high fine is provided for going for a walk, vehicles in which dogs are transported should even be confiscated for three months. In addition, house owners will soon no longer be allowed to rent their apartments to dog and cat owners.

In Islam, animals are generally referred to as “unclean”. That is why keeping pets is not welcome, especially among the clergy. In his opinion, going for a walk also triggers panic among the population. The police have tried several times to ban dog ownership altogether, but it never worked. Now the ban is to become legal.
