Ciudad Juárez (Mexico), Apr 3 (EFE) .- Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez scored a goal in the 89th minute that gave Cruz Azul a 0-1 victory over Juárez FC, the eleventh straight win that put his team to one of the league record.

On the thirteenth day of Clausura 2021, the Peruvian Juan Reynoso, coach of Cruz Azul, gave rest to several starters who participated with his teams and still added a victory that will keep the Blues for the seventh consecutive date as leaders of the Clausura.

‘La Maquina’ was the most dangerous team in the first half, with constant arrivals to the Juárez area that did not count on targeted shots.

The Blues continued with the initiative, but remained unsuccessful in front of the goal until in the 89th minute the Argentine Walter Montoya assisted Jonathan Rodríguez, who on the edge of the area defined the 0-1.

Cruz Azul will seek against Guadalajara on the fourteenth day of the Clausura to tie the record for consecutive wins in Mexican football that two teams have achieved, Necaxa in the 1934-35 campaign, and León, in the 2019 Clausura.

Two hours earlier, the Puebla of Argentine coach Nicolás Larcamón beat Mazatlán FC 3-1 at the start of the thirteenth day of the Clausura.

Mazatlán opened the scoring with a goal from Brazilian Giovanni Augusto, but the expulsion of Uruguayan goalkeeper Nicolás Vikonis allowed the poblanos to achieve victory with goals from Santiago Ormeño, Salvador Reyes and Uruguayan Maximiliano Araújo.

This result promoted Puebla to fourth place in the standings, which would ensure it a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The thirteenth date will continue this Saturday when Atlas receives Tijuana, America of Argentine strategist Santiago Solari will host Necaxa and Javier Aguirre’s Monterrey challenge San Luis.

The day will end on Sunday with the Pumas UNAM-Pachuca, Guadalajara-Santos Laguna, Querétaro-Tigres UANL and León-Toluca matches.
