Caracas, Apr 28 (EFE) .- The Minister of Education of Venezuela, Aristóbulo Istúriz, died this Tuesday night at the age of 74, reported the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, without specifying the cause of death, which various sources attribute it to a heart problem.
“With deep regret we regret to inform the departure of our Profe, Aristóbulo Isturiz, a fighter of this country to which he dedicated his life. His hopeful smile accompanied him until the last moment. Our condolences to his wife, children, friends. The teacher will live in us. “Rodríguez wrote on his Twitter account minutes before midnight.
Istúriz, who was also the sectoral vice president for Social and Territorial Socialism of Venezuela, had previously held various positions, both with the Government chaired by Nicolás Maduro, and in the terms of the late Hugo Chávez, with whom he had already been Minister of Education.
From January 2016 to June 2017, he was Vice President of the Republic and, later, Minister of People’s Power for Communes and Social Movements.
In his long political career, he was also Anzoátegui state governor, vice president of the National Assembly (AN, Parliament), deputy and mayor of the Libertador municipality, in Caracas.
Currently, a prominent member of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), after having served in the Democratic Action formation.
This teacher by profession and trade unionist by vocation was founding president of the Unitary Union of Teaching (SUMA) of the Federal District and a founding member of Fetramagisterio.
In addition, he was an active national leader of the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers (FVM) and the College of Teachers of Venezuela (CPV). His active participation in social and political struggles led him to be appointed to different positions of popular representation.
