The National Government made official this Wednesday the plan for vaccination against COVID-19. The campaign began yesterday with the application of the first of the 300 thousand doses of Sputnik V that arrived in the country on December 25.
The first day in which the Russian vaccine against coronavirus began to be applied throughout the country, and simultaneously, in Argentina the highest number of infections was recorded since November 13. The Ministry of Health notified 11,650 new infections and 151 fatalities.
In this context, the Executive Branch published today in the Official bulletin he “Strategic Plan for Vaccination Against COVID-19” which aims to “reduce the morbidity, mortality and socio-economic impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic in Argentina, starting with the vaccination of the entire target population in a staggered and progressive manner, according to risk prioritization and the availability of vaccine doses ”.
Through the Resolution 2883/2020 It was explained that the Plan’s strategy is in charge of the Health portfolio and includes the participation of the 24 jurisdictions. In this sense, it was emphasized that to “achieve the objective of achieving high vaccination coverage in a timely manner”, it requires “articulated, collaborative and multisectoral actions at all levels of government, together with social organizations.” Therefore, it is the Ministry that leads Ginés González García the one in charge of supplying the rest of the provinces with the vaccines that are authorized, as well as the syringes, needles, discarders and vaccination cards.
According to the National Directorate for the Control of Immunopreventable Diseases, with the consensus of the National Immunization Commission (CONAIN), vaccination will be staggered, taking into account the availability of the input, and “Considering the priority population to adults over 60, health personnel, strategic personnel and risk groups.” While it was clarified that “It will not be mandatory”, other populations may be included later in the strategy according to the “risk assessment and availability” of the vaccines.
After the first case of COVID-19 was detected in Argentina on March 3, currently in the country there are already more than one and a half million infected. As specified by the Government, “the largest number of confirmed cases in the age group between 20 and 49 years, being between 30-39 years the group that registered the highest age-specific incidence rate (5,472 / 100,000 inhabitants).” He also remarked that the highest risk of hospitalization, complication or death from coronavirus occurs in those over 60 years of age and in people with pre-existing diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart, respiratory and chronic kidney diseases.
On the other hand, health workers, “Strategic sector to adequately sustain the functioning and response of the health system”, have accounted for a significant proportion of infections resulting from their exposure to the virus. In fact, 63,837 accumulated cases were registered in this group, representing a percentage of 4.3% of the total for the country, specified the Ministry of Health.
The vaccination plan specified that it will be voluntary, free “fair and equal”, and must be guaranteed to all the target population mentioned above, “Regardless of the history of having suffered the disease.”
Through the Health Networks Program, the health portfolio will make transfers to the provinces to be used for the implementation of the vaccination campaign. In the resolution published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette, mention was made that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the application of the vaccine “as a fundamental primary prevention tool to limit the health and economic consequences of the pandemic” .
“The vaccination campaign against SARS-CoV-2 constitutes a national public health strategy, priority, equitable, solidary and beneficial for the well-being and health of both individual and collective of our citizens,” the Government indicated.
