The end of 2020 was not easy for former president Carlos Menem. The health problems that afflict him caused him to remain hospitalized in the Los Arcos clinic, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo, for several days.
Therefore, the daughter of the former president, Zulemita, did not miss the opportunity to reflect the happiness for having shared the beginning of the new year with her father. And he did it with an emotional photo,
“We beat you 2020“Zulemita wrote on her Twitter account next to a photograph in which her hand is seen intertwined with that of her father, who is 90 years old. Only 15 minutes of the new year had passed.
On Thursday, December 24, Menem, president between 1989 and 1999 and senator since 2005, was induced into a coma in the clinic where he has been admitted for three weeks, after suffering kidney failure in the midst of his delicate health.
Menem was admitted on December 15 at the Los Arcos Sanatorium in the Argentine capital for a prostate medical check-up and there he was diagnosed with a urinary infection that complicated his heart problems.
The former head of state was already hospitalized in 2020 on two other occasions, although later he returned to participate in various sessions of the Senate virtually, a methodology established during the coronavirus pandemic.
“My father @CarlosMenem_LR is still in an induced coma, I deeply regret that a great defender of life, the one who instituted the day of the unborn child, cannot accompany with his convictions at this very important moment for our country,” Zulemita had written on Tuesday, when the Senate was preparing to make the voluntary termination of pregnancy a law.
