DThe doctor Menelas Nkeshimana experienced the strictness of his rules firsthand. After a long day at work and endless meetings about the corona crisis, he fell asleep in the passenger seat of a colleague’s car. The mask slipped while driving. The police promptly stopped the car and imposed a fine of eight euros. In Rwanda that is a considerable sum.
As one of the heads of the country’s Corona task force, the 37-year-old had helped write such strict regulations. And he proudly talks about the incident on the phone, after all, he shows that the police are also implementing the regulations. Probably no African country has received so much praise for its fight against the pandemic.
