At least three people were shot dead in a bowling alley in Rockford, Illinois on Saturday night. According to local media, three other people were injured. The local police chief said there were two teenagers among the victims.
A person aged 37 was arrested, it said. According to the police chief, the employees apparently did not have to use their weapons. There was initially no information about the background. According to the US television broadcaster CNN, however, the police suspect that it was a random attack.
Sad record at Rockford
The police initially received emergency calls about gunshots in the bowling alley. The arriving officers found several victims in the building.
Rockford is 130 kilometers northwest of Chicago and has a population of about 150,000. According to the newspaper “Rockford Register Star”, 35 people died from homicides in the city this year – more than since at least 1965.
