Residents flee: Violent explosion in oil refinery in Indonesia – News abroad

The flames are meters high, there is thick black smoke everywhere! Local residents are running for their lives: disturbing images from Indonesia.

Apparently there was a massive explosion early Monday morning (local time) at the Balongan Oil Refinery in Indramayu in West Java Province. This then led to a major fire in the plant.

At least 20 people were injured. Surrounding houses had to be evacuated, around 1000 people had to be brought to safety from the flames. According to the fire brigade’s initial unsecured findings, a lightning strike may have triggered the fire.

According to initial media reports, the violent explosion should have been heard miles away.
