It won’t be against Mike Tyson, but former heavyweight champion and Hall of Famer Evander Holyfield, 54, already has a date to return to the ring.
Holyfield (44-10-2) would come out of his 11-year retirement to face Kevin McBride in an exhibition fight on June 5.
The fight was first reported by Sports Illustrated.
The fight between Holyfield and McBride would be part of the role that Teófimo López will star, who will defend his lightweight title against George Kambosos.
In recent days, Holyfield and Tyson negotiated the possibility of a third fight, after the two they starred in in the 90s, the last one a boxing classic for the controversial ending in which Tyson bit and tore part of the ear of Holyfield.
The third fight fell through after Tyson turned down a $ 25 million offer to step into the ring with Holyfield.
Last November, Tyson, a former heavyweight champion, won an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr.
For his part, McBride (35-10-1), 47, is recognized for having sent Tyson into retirement after beating him by knockout in 2005. He also retired from boxing in 2011.
