Raphael Varane, left Real Madrid against Liverpool by Covid-19

Raphael Varane tested positive for coronavirus, so he will miss the first leg of the Champions League of Real Madrod against Liverpool. The player has been isolated at his home since last night and Zidane has to find a plan b.

Real Madrid reported the diagnosis on Tuesday afternoon.

“Real Madrid CF communicates that our player Raphaël Varane has given a positive result in the COVID-19 test that was carried out this morning,” the club published on its website.

With the absence of Varane, Madrid loses its starting duo in the center of the rear, since Sergio Ramos, as ESPN reported last week, will be out for a month due to a muscle tear. Nor will they play against Liverpool, Eden Hazard and Dani Carvajal.

It is estimated that, in addition, Varane will also miss the Classic of the weekend against Barcelona, since, on average, white players are around ten days out due to COVID-19.

Varane joins Militao, Hazard, Casemiro, Luka Jovic and Nacho, in addition to coach Zidane, and becomes the seventh member of the first team to contract the virus.

Zidane is left with only two specific centers to receive Liverpool: Nacho and Mendy. It remains to be seen if he maintains his initial idea of including three centrals with Mendy and keeping Marcelo on the wing or if, on the contrary, he recovers the 4-4-2 to avoid taking more risks.
