He resisted for a long time – but now the tax documents of ex-US President Trump have been received by the New York prosecutor. The authority is investigating possible tax and insurance fraud.
Donald Trump’s tax records have been received by the Manhattan District Attorney after a lengthy legal battle. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the authorities. District Attorney Cyrus Vance had been fighting over the records for a year and a half. The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a motion from Trump’s lawyers to block the release of the documents, giving the ex-president a serious legal defeat.
According to the news channel CNN, there are millions of pages that have included numerous other financial documents in addition to tax returns since 2011. However, the documents should not be published.
Paying to a porn actress is also being investigated
The prosecutor had requested Trump’s tax documents from 2011 to 2018 in August 2019 as part of a criminal investigation. Vance wants to prove tax and insurance fraud to the ex-president. He is pursuing evidence that Trump may have lied about assets – namely to get favorable loan terms and tax benefits for himself or his company. It is also being examined whether Trump paid hush money to women who claim they had affairs with him: the porn actress Stormy Daniels and the Playboy model Karen McDougal. It would be particularly tricky if it emerged that the alleged hush money that had flowed from the election campaign pots had come.
Unlike his predecessors, Trump always refused to publish his tax returns during his tenure as US President. Critics therefore speculate that he has something to hide. Trump has described himself as the victim of “the greatest witch hunt in history”. The media have reported extensively on Trump’s tax behavior. The New York Times wrote last September that Trump only paid $ 750 in federal taxes in 2016 and 2017 – and none at all in eleven of the 18 years examined.
