Profeco closes two distributors for selling industrial oxygen for human consumption

Given the high demand for oxygen to deal with cases of Covid-19, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco), reported that they were closed two distributors located in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Mexico City for selling industrial oxygen for human consumption.

In a press conference led by President López Obrador, the attorney general reported that it seeks to prevent speculation with oxygen hoarding.

“We have been pending of the subject of the sale of the oxygen. It should be clarified that there are two types of distributors: the industrial distributor and the one for human consumption, on the health issue. There are some who are only industrial distributors and we have detected some of these who are selling it for human consumption.

“There have been two cases in the country, both in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Mexico City where those two cases were closed because it is oxygen that is not for human consumption, but for industrial use, although we did the closing for not displaying prices and other commercial issues, “he said.

At the National Palace, Sheffield Padilla indicated that Profeco is seeking to prevent speculation with oxygen hoarding “but we also want to prevent, in coordination with Cofepris, the sale of industrial oxygen for human consumption.”

“We will continue with the operations. We had high incidents in the month of October and again in this month of December that is about to end ”, he explained.
