This morning the second batch of Pfizer anticovid vaccines arrived at the international airports of Mexico City (AICM) and Monterrey, which will be administered to health personnel in the country. Both shipments add up to a total of 42,900 doses.

As reported yesterday by Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Relations, the arrival took place at these airports to continue with the National Vaccination Plan of the Ministry of Health. The chancellor confirmed that both shipments arrived “on time.”

As it happened on Wednesday, December 23, DHL handled the transportation and distribution of the vaccines, which were brought from the Pfizer plant, in Puurs, Bélgica.

“Already in flight 42,900 vaccines from the Pfizer plant in Puurs, Belgium. DHL in charge of transport and distribution. Airports in Mexico City and Monterrey will be the arrival points tomorrow. The Ministry of Health’s vaccination plan is continuing, “Ebrard reported on Twitter.

The director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, and the director of the National Center for the Health of Children and Adolescents, Dr. Miriam Esther Veras attended the reception of the doses; who reiterated the commitment of the Health sector to provide the vaccine on time.

Veras Godoy recalled that these first packages are only “the start” of the national vaccination program, since more than 34.47 million doses have been pre-purchased with Pfizer. In addition, the inoculation process should prioritize the population at greatest risk.

“We are going to act, however, it is not overnight,” he stressed. In the same way, he recalled that the vaccine is only one of the measures to be implemented to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, since it is also important to respect the healthy distance and the use of face masks.

For his part, the director of the IMSS thanked the Foreign Ministry staff for their joint work to bring the batches of vaccines, in order to achieve universality. He noted that 1.4 million doses will be sent to Mexico before the end of the year.

In the same way, he acknowledged the work of health personnel, who said, will be the first to be vaccinated, with the purpose of “protecting those who have protected us.” He added that the process will be carried out in a staggered manner to cover the ten different categories of medical personnel.

“There is full security about the vaccine and protecting those who have protected us. We continue to chain this good news, “he said.

On the first day of vaccination against covid-19, a total of 2,924 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine were applied in Mexico City, Toluca and Querétaro, informed Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion.
