In fact, two days ago it transpired that more than 100,000 Peruvians will not be able to vote in Chile, due to the confinement imposed by the government of Sebastián Piñera after the aggressive wave of infections that is experienced in the southern neighbor. The Chilean government has also suspended its parliamentary elections due to the pandemic.
“With the current epidemiological situation in the southern country, the holding of public events for electoral reasons is subject to restrictions adopted by the health authority, which limit the movement of people”ONPE noted.
In some other countries, such as France, which are also under strict confinement, it is possible to vote. A Foreign Ministry source confirmed to the newspaper El Comercio that the government of Emmanuel Macron will allow Peruvian citizens to go to their respective consulates to vote.
There is a total of around 1.5 million Peruvians abroad; It will depend on the governments of the countries in which they live if they can come to vote for the general and parliamentary elections next Sunday, April 11.
