The 2021 General Elections are a few hours away from being held at the national level. In these fractioned elections, the new president of Peru for the period 2021-206, new congressmen and members of the Andean Parliament will be chosen.
However, This new election day will be atypical, since it will take place in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, which is at the highest peak of the second wave.
Thus, many Peruvians have wondered if they are obliged to go to the polls. The answer is yes: everyone must go to vote.
According to the Organic Law of Elections 26859 art. 9, citizens with valid civil rights are obliged to vote. The rule, on the other hand, is modified for people over 70 years of age. In that case, the vote is optional.
To go to vote, you must do so at your respective voting table, which is registered on the ONPE page.. Voting hours are from 07:00 am to 19:00 pm. It should be noted that a staggered schedule has been established, as a suggestion, that governs according to your last digit of the National Identity Document (DNI).
