Panama City, Apr 10 (EFE) .- Panama registered this Saturday 279 new cases of covid-19 and three deaths related to the disease, which raised 358,377 infections and 6,159 accumulated deaths after more than a year of pandemic.
There are 66 patients in the country admitted to intensive care units (ICU) and 440 to a general hospital ward, while 3,619 are in home isolation and 195 are in hospital-hotels, for a total of 4,320 active cases of the disease.
In the last day, 8,872 tests were applied to detect the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which yielded a positivity of 3.1%, according to the daily report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
Regarding the national vaccination program, which began on January 20, the Panamanian authorities reported that as of this Saturday, 490,911 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been applied, at the moment the only one that has reached their country, of 4.2 millions of inhabitants.
The Minsa stressed that the Pfizer vaccine against covid-19 has a protection of up to 95%, but insisted that the guard should not be lowered and that biosecurity measures must continue to be strengthened to prevent the spread of the disease.
So far Pfizer has delivered more than 530,000 doses to Panama, which has secured the purchase of 7.2 million vaccines, 5 million from this pharmaceutical company and the rest from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and the Covax mechanism of the World Organization of the Health (WHO).
