Official: Roland Garros will be postponed for a week

Official: Roland Garros 2021 was postponed a week and will be played from Sunday, May 30 to Sunday, June 13, with the intention of play with public.

It should be remembered that France is in the middle of a new quarantine due to the growth in cases of coronavirus, which put the health system on the brink of saturation, so events with the public are paralyzed until the end of May. The classification stage, then, it will be played from May 24 to 28.

This delay would affect the entire calendar since there will be a week without a circuit at the end of May, while the second week of the French Open will coincide with turf tournaments in s’Hertogenbosch and Stuttgart (ATP) and Nottingham (WTA). And there would only be a two week margin with Wimbledon.

Also, the original Olympic ranking for Establishing roster for the Tokyo Games also made its cut on June 7.

This week began the brick dust tour in Europe that has as its most important moment Roland Garros, originally scheduled to start on May 23. Next week Monte-Carlo will be played, the first Masters 1000 of the season in brick dust, from May 2 to 9 Madrid will be played and from 9 to 16 the Masters 1000 of Rome.
