Murderer before execution – “I was once a good person”

His crimes are hard to beat in horror. Now the American David Cox (50) has been executed. His death sentence was carried out by lethal injection in a state prison in the US state of Mississippi.

The convicted murderer and rapist had admitted to having shot his wife Kim in 2009 and to having raped his then 12-year-old stepdaughter in front of his dying wife.

The former truck driver’s wife reported her husband to the police in 2009 because he had abused her daughter from a previous relationship.

Cox then spent nine months in prison before being released on bail.

Then the horrific acts for which he was sentenced to death: after his release, he bought a pistol and broke into the house where his wife lived with their two young sons and their daughter.

Three years ago, the former truck driver began writing to the courts asking for his lawyers who tried to stop his execution to be released and for his execution to take place. In a letter he described himself as a “guilty man who deserves to die”.

In his last words, Cox turned to his children: “I want my children to know that I love them very much and that I was once a good person.” Ledger “.

The Mississippi Supreme Court had previously agreed that Cox was sane at the time of the crime. A date was then set for his execution. The stepdaughter told the Daily Journal that she would attend the execution.

It was the tenth execution in the United States that year and the first in Mississippi since 2012. The state has had difficulty obtaining the drugs used for executions for several years. Many manufacturers refuse to sell their products to US states who want to use them for executions.
