“Unity and mobilization”, repeats Mario Delgado provided he has the slightest chance. “The keys to winning in the 2021 elections are unity and mobilization”, completes the national leader of Brunette, the president’s party Andrés Manuel López Obrador. However, the first of the foundations for legislative success has failed in the beginning of the internal process to elect its candidates.

The last case showing a fracture in party unity was one of the most controversial. Last Wednesday, Delgado announced that Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio, accused of alleged sexual abuse, will be the Morenoist candidate for governor of Guerrero, one of the biggest booties in the elections next June 6.

However, criticism has not ceased after the appointment, not only because of the accusations against Salgado Macedonio, but also from his main rival, the candidate Pablo Amílcar Sandoval Ballesteros, brother of the influential Secretary of Public Administration, Irma Eréndira Sandoval, announced this weekend that it will exhaust “all internal instances” to “clarify the process”.

“We have communicated to our colleagues that we will ask to make the method used for candidate selection transparent, we will exhaust all instances of our party to clarify the process ”, Sandoval assured in social networks.

“We will fight with the assurance that the defense of the fundamental principles of Morena strengthens us as a movement. The spirit of the movement is not the ambition for public office, it is the possibility of building a future of well-being for the guerrerenses ”, concluded the former federal delegate in the entity that he sought to govern.

It is It is not the first nor will it be the last questioning of Morena’s internal process, which has been pointed out from different internal fronts in recent weeks by various political actors, who have one characteristic in common: all of them lost to someone else the internal race for a candidacy in one of the 15 entities that will renew their governor in a few months.

John Ackerman, the commentator and husband of Irma Eréndira Sandoval, and therefore brother-in-law of Amílcar SandovalHe even went further after learning that his relative would not be the candidate of López Obrador’s party in Guerrero: assured that the decision meant a “historic break” for Morena.

“It is perfectly clear that the decision that was made was not based on any ‘technical exercise’ that has ‘taken into account the opinion of the public’ but rather it was a strictly political decision where a deeply questioned profile was privileged“Added the columnist, a staunch defender of the Moreno government.

Ackerman referred to the method chosen by Morena to select his standard bearers in the 15 gubernatories at stake in 2021: the polls. However, of this procedure, the general public, the party membership and even the candidates, know very little. However, the only ones who have not asked for more transparency are those who obtained the candidacy.

On the contrary, those who were left without options to represent the party in the elections where Morena starts as a great favorite have raised their voices. Some as Senator Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, announced a couple of weeks ago that would challenge the internal process to elect the Chihuahua candidate for the party in power and where he himself participated as a candidate.

The Chihuahuan legislator even went one step further and accused Gabriel Garcia Hernandez, the coordinator of the federal delegates of the López Obrador government, as “Directly responsible for the manipulation of the internal candidate selection process” of the party, as well as of “spooning” the polls in favor of his favorites (four candidates of the 15 were delegates under his command).

Others are analyzing their legal and political options, as the businessman Gerardo Vargas Landeros, who fell short in his aspiration for the candidacy for the government of Sinaloa against Senator Rubén Rocha. The Sinaloans chose me as my Morena candidate and I challenge Mario Delgado to show the polls where you support for the cheating designation of Rocha Moya“, He launched.

For his part, Senator José Narro Céspedes, specified that in the case of the internal process to define the Morenoist standard-bearer in Zacatecas, the party commission in charge of carrying them out did them through telephone questionnaires to define the winner. “They are not reliable or accurate”said the legislator, who also accused that the composition of the sample did not reflect the true makeup of the entity.

But it is so far the federal deputy Claudia Yáñez who has taken the most forceful actions after losing the candidacy, in this case for the governorship for the state of Colima. The legislator I quit last week to his militancy in Morena, citing “dark interests and cupular agreements” in the internal process.

“I’m aware of, destroyed the institutionality of the party and turned it into an appendage of a twisted and questionable parallel electoral structure, it would be useless to go to your National Commission of Honesty and Justice to denounce the offense, “said Yáñez in his resignation letter, consulted by Infobae Mexico.

“All this only affects us,” he assured Infobae Mexico a Morena militant who asked to remain anonymous to express himself candidly about the current situation of the party. “Is a bad decision of the leadership be so secretive with survey details, but also some candidates do not accept that they can lose”He added.

The militant, from the State of Mexico, stated that, if he continues with this type of problem, the party could lose governorships in which it is a wide favorite. “We ourselves are our worst enemyIt has not been the conservatives (the opposition) until now, but right here ”, he concluded.

The internal fractures they could stay even more exposed – and deeper – in the coming weeks, when the selection of candidates for federal councils at stake begins to be defined, as there will be different factors to consider: an overwhelming majority of current legislators will seek reelection, in addition to the party’s alliance with other organizations and the use of polls in this process as well.
