Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio 2021: renewal for the most dynamic convertible
Just a few days ago, the British firm removed the mantle that covered the new Mini John Cooper Works 2021, the sportiest and most performance version of the range (with permission from the Mini John Cooper Works GP). Now, Mini has done the same with the restyling of the convertible version, the new Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio 2021, which debuts after undergoing a mid-cycle restyling focused on slight aesthetic, technological and equipment changes.
Mini Cooper, why its future is electric
This update has followed the one that suffered the Mini 2021 range earlier this year. Thus, the novelties displayed by the rest of the range are directly transferred to the modelos John Cooper Works and the 100% electric variant of the model, the Mini Cooper SE. In addition, some details of its own are integrated that allow the powerful utility, available in both Coupé and Cabrio versions, to continue competing against its strongest rivals.

In the aesthetic section, we find some round LED headlights that are renewed, together with a hexagonal radiator grill which is now larger and extends to the bottom of the bumper. On each side we have side air intakes and the bumper strip, which is now finished in the body color, for example in the nueva variante Zesty Yellow exclusive to the Mini John Cooper Works Convertible 2021. In addition, the front side panels and the rear diffuser have been modified.
Exclusive to the convertible version is the electric textile soft top, also available as an option with the Mini Yours Union Jack graphics. This sunroof can be opened while driving at speeds of up to 30 km / h with the touch of a button and in just 18 seconds. This allows the driver and passengers to enjoy the sound emanating from the sports exhaust system with double central outlets of 85 mm in diameter.
As for the interior, Mini has installed an updated instrument cluster that accompanies the 8.8 inch center touch screen for the infotainment system, which also has a new operating system. In turn, the manufacturer has designed two color atmospheres different: Lounge, which combines blue and turquoise for a relaxing atmosphere; and Sport, which blends red and anthracite for a sportier inspiration. Like the Coupe, we have piano black sports seats and trim.
Mechanics and equipment
Under the hood there are no changes compared to the existing model. Engine 2.0-liter supercharged four-cylinder is still the great protagonist. This mechanic delivers 231 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque max motor. It can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. With the manual transmission, the 0 to 100 km / h registers it in 6.6 seconds, while the automatic transmission helps to stop the clock in 6.5 seconds.
In the dynamic section there is still a configuration of sports suspension, signed Brembo brakes and 17-inch John Cooper Works light-alloy wheels. As an option, customers can select 18-inch light-alloy wheels and a new adaptive suspension with selective damping technology, which now offers maximum damping force up to 10% higher than previous records.
Finally, at the level of equipment, the new Mini John Cooper Works Cabrio 2021 features new packages in the areas of comfort, connectivity and driver assistance. These include the heated steering wheel, lane departure warning included in the Driving Assistant package and the Stop & Go function for adaptive cruise control. The rear parking sensors are also part of the standard equipment.
