Mexico reports 13,734 new cases of COVID-19 and 1,044 deaths

The first week of 2021 is close to ending and the cases of contagion of COVID-19 continue to rise in Mexico. According to data from the Health Secretary (SSA) until this Thursday, January 7, a total of 1 million 493 thousand 569 people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been registered, as well as 131 thousand 031 deaths.

According to Ricardo Cortés Alcalá, general director of Health Promotion, in the last two weeks there has been a decrease in the curve of estimated cases of 16 percent; however, this is due to the season that has just passed.

“This decline always happens at the end of the year, people stop going to medical attention during these seasons. Likewise, the delay in notification can play an important role in these last dates and there will probably be a plateau later when the data for the first weeks of the year are collected ”, he explained.

Positivity during week 52 remains at 42 percent of the total of 3 million 781 thousand 625 people who have been notified.

Regarding fatality, Cortés Alcalá stressed that it remains at six percent, numbers that have been reducing compared to the beginning of the pandemic of the COVID-19.

“At the beginning of the epidemic it was extremely high lethality, the number of cases that were being reported were fewer and therefore, this measure is decreasing due to the treatment that has been granted … these treatments also improve this measure of lethality”, projection.
