Mexico City, Apr 25 (EFE) .- The Government of Mexico reported 94 new deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours to reach a total of 214,947 deaths, reported this Sunday its Ministry of Health (SSa ).
The Mexican health authorities also registered 1,653 new infections in their daily technical report on the incidence of the coronavirus, for a total of 2,328,391 confirmed cases.
With these data, Mexico is the third country in the world with the most deaths linked to the pandemic, behind the United States and Brazil, and the fifteenth in number of confirmed infections, according to the US Johns Hopkins University.
However, it is very likely that the real data will be higher, as the Government itself acknowledged last Tuesday in the updated report on “Excess Mortality in Mexico” that deaths associated with covid-19 are estimated at just over 332,500 after a analysis of death certificates.
Since the beginning of the health emergency, Mexico has studied 6.5 million people with tests to diagnose coronaviruas, reported Santa Elizabeth Ceballos, director of Epidemiological Surveillance at a press conference at the National Palace.
He specified that the number of estimated cases is 2,516,022 when considering those awaiting the test result, among which there are 25,369 estimated active cases, that is, 1%, who have presented symptoms in the last 14 days.
Ceballos also reported that the average occupation of general beds in Mexican hospitals is 12%, and 18% in terms of intensive care beds with a respirator.
Regarding deaths, Mexico City, the focus of the pandemic, accumulates almost one in five deaths nationwide.
The official recalled that as of this Monday, and during the next two weeks, at the epidemiological traffic light none of the 32 states of the country will be in red (maximum risk of contagion), six will be in orange (high risk), 20 in yellow (medium risk) and six in green (low risk).
The Ministry of Health reported 192,320 new vaccines applied in the last hours, with which the total of the doses administered to the Mexican population rises to 16,410,034.
Of the total, he detailed, a total of 5,830,079 people have received the two units necessary to complete the vaccination scheme or the single-dose drug from the Chinese company CanSino.
For now, the vaccination program includes adults over 60 years of age, medical personnel and some of the educational personnel.
Mexico, of 126 million inhabitants, has received 22,110,885 million doses of vaccines from five different pharmaceutical companies, adding 500,000 units of the Chinese drug from Sinovac this Sunday.
The country has committed 34.4 million doses of the American Pfizer, 79.4 million of the Anglo-Swedish to AstraZeneca, 35 million of the Chinese CanSino, 24 million of the Russian Sputnik V, 20 million of Sinovac, 12 million of the also China Sinopharm and 51.4 million Covax from the World Health Organization (WHO).
