Mexican companies consult Russia and Pfizer on anticovid vaccines

Mexican businessmen have already initiated contacts and procedures with foreign pharmaceutical companies to obtain and be able to sell, distribute and apply the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in our country.

They are the first investors to make known their interest in acquiring and commercializing the biological, after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave the green light for private initiative to buy the vaccine abroad to sell it and apply it to the general public in Mexico.

Among these businessmen are the owners of Laboratorio Santo Domingo, based in Guadalajara, Jalisco, who have approached the Russian government to import the vaccine Sputnik V in order to sell it in Mexico, and maquiladoras in Baja California who confirmed that they had approached Pfizer to acquire the immunization doses from this pharmaceutical company to apply it to its employees.

Jesús Ortega Martínez, director of Laboratorio Santo Domingo, revealed to MILENIO that they have already made the first contacts with Russian authorities to analyze the importation of the vaccine Sputnik V.

“We would love to include the vaccination system for the business unit, and we are waiting for it to be possible. We even had an approach with the Russian embassy, and we are in talks to make a formal request for the possibility to import the vaccine, “he explained.

In this regard, Juan José González, Medical Director of Laboratorio Santo Domingo, pointed out that the importation process for vaccines can take between 3 and 4 months.

“As such, we already started the procedures last month and we hope that the authorities will authorize and review us. To begin with, you have to have a special refrigerator at less than 60 degrees, a series of vaccine logs that you have to monitor, and it is a somewhat cumbersome procedure. But, fortunately, as we already have a blood bank, it will be very simple for us ”, he explained.

Ortega Martínez pointed out that at this time they do not know what the cost to the public of the vaccine would be.

Separately, Salvador Díaz González, president of the Association of Industrialists of the Otay Table, in Tijuana, Baja California, announced that this organization has already contacted Pfizer in order to acquire its anticovid vaccine to immunize the employees of the companies to those it represents.

“We already have contact with the pharmaceutical company, which is the same one that provides vaccines to the federal government, this after the announcement made by the President of free purchase,” mentioned the representative of the maquiladoras in Tijuana.

He stressed that for employers acquiring the doses against the virus “is cheaper than tests to detect covid and the main thing is that it helps the health of the staff.”

According to Díaz González, Pfizer stated that there will be availability of vaccines for purchase by private companies, but they will have to wait until the deep-freezing systems required by the biological developed by the pharmaceutical company are ready.

Meanwhile, they are working on speeding up the procedures for importing them, declared the Baja California business leader.

For his part, the governor of Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez, reported a meeting with businessmen of the entity and the state secretary of Health, Manuel de la O Cavazos, to analyze the purchase of the vaccine abroad.

“Let’s hope that the statement (by López Obrador) does not remain in a speech because then it will be that Cofepris will not give us permission and we will continue to have problems. I will stop what I have to stop doing to buy the vaccine and the businessmen have made the offer to buy it for all workers and that is good, we all have to make an effort, “said the New Leonean president.

President Andres Manuel López Obrador explained that Pfizer will deliver in January one million 420 thousand 575 vaccines with which it is planned to immunize all medical personnel, for which he presented a vaccination plan that consists of the arrival of four batches of doses.

In addition, the president pointed out that in January the vaccination of older adults with doses from the Chinese laboratory CanSino will begin: “An agreement of 8 million doses was established from January to March of this vaccine, it is one dose and does not require low temperatures, So by having this vaccine available we are going to start vaccinating older adults in January ”.

Finally, President López Obrador canceled his tour of Chiapas during the New Year, in order to remain in Mexico City to attend the crisis due to covid-19.

“We are not going to leave anymore, because we are expanding the number of beds and equipping hospitals in Mexico City to treat the sick, we have availability, but we do not want to trust ourselves,” he explained.

The governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, was hospitalized in a preventive manner on Monday night, informed yesterday the Secretary of Health of the state, Daniel Díaz Martínez.

The state president had tested positive for covid on December 19, when it was reported that he had no symptoms and would remain isolated.
