Texas fans packed Globe Life Field to witness the game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers, in what became the most crowded sporting event since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in March 2020.

The team allowed the entrance of 40,158 fans to the first game of the season at home

Given the immensity of fans who came to the venue, it was impossible to maintain social distancing, the extreme measure that world authorities, including the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), have asked the population to try control infections, which have left thousands of deaths worldwide.

The organization decided that the retractable roof of the stadium should remain open all day as a ventilation measure, another of the recommendations established by health authorities around the world.

Fans also flocked to the stands selling food, souvenirs.

The Rangers are the only team that allows fans to enter 100% of their stadium capacity. The decision is a consequence of the measures of the state government, who assured that the contagion statistics are going down.

The decision has drawn criticism from Joe Biden, president of the United States, who classified it as irresponsible.

Despite the situation in 2020, Texas fans had already been able to attend the stadium, with limited tickets, during the season’s playoffs.
