Mario Ross, former oil leader who sought to succeed Deschamps, dies

Mario Ross García, former leader of section 44 of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM) died in Mexico City from the COVID-19, after a picture of pneumonia complicated his health, according to his family and close friends.

Ross García died on Thursday, December 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the country’s capital, as reported by one of his relatives; Rocío García Gallegos, who on Facebook dedicated an emotional farewell message: “I know that God is great and puts us many tests, today we start the year with sad news. Uncle, you got ahead of us, rest in peace, next to my aunt ”.

People say that Mario Ross García He aspired to lead the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic, after the resignation of Carlos Romero Deschamps in November 2019.

On that occasion, Ross García assured that he had already been elected in the collegiate assembly of December 2018, but he was still waiting for the Judicial Power to resolve so that they would give him a note as the general secretary of the STPRM.

After the removal of Romero Deschamps as leader of the STPRM, 32 of the 36 sections agreed to the appointment of Mario Ross García, who was supported by the parties of Morena and Partido del Trabajo (PT) as the new secretary of the union. However, according to Ross, the union ignored the note that chose him as the successor to Romero Deschamps, so an internship had to be established.

The STPRM has more candidates to occupy the leadership

It should be noted that Mario Ross García was not the only member proposed to lead the STPRM, because in July 2019, Sergio Carlos Morales Quintana, also assured that the Extraordinary National Convention selected him as the general secretary of the union. Nor was his leadership validated.
