Gellert Grindelwald will change his face in Fantastic Beasts 3, the third installment of the Harry Potter prequel saga, leaving out Jhony Depp who was the dark wizard in the first two installments. Mads Mikkelsen will be in charge of bringing the character to life this time.
Mikkelsen will debut as the great villain after Depp forced his retirement after his legal problems with his ex-partner Amber Heard.
The actor talked about what it has been like to take the role and said that trying to copy what his predecessor did would be a “creative suicide.”
“No one is interested in me going there and I tried to copy anything, that would be an immediate creative suicide, especially when it has been done masterfully before. So everyone hopes that we will find a different path, ”begins Mikkelsen at Collider.
The new film is expected to be released on July 15, 2022.
Mads Mikkelsen imposes his style on Johnny Depp
For Mads it will be a great challenge so he will have to establish a similar bond without leaving aside his style, establishing a bridge between both performances.
“Having said that, we need a bridge between what he did and what I am going to do, so those bridges have to be found together, be it a certain aspect or a certain attitude in certain situations, but you have to make it your own. Anything else would just be creatively stupid, ”he adds.
Mikkelsen revealed that he has been a fan of Harry Potter and it is an honor to be part of the series.
“I’m a huge fan of the Harry Potter universe and it’s a kind of genre that you don’t touch in my part of the world. You can’t get away with budget in Denmark, so obviously when it came to me it was a fantastic opportunity, ”he concludes.
At the moment, no details of the story have been revealed. Recall that the last installment culminated in the revelation of Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), who was told by Gellert Grindelwald that he was the brother of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and that his real name is Aurelius Dumbledore.
