* The ISM institute said on Thursday that the index its survey among purchasing managers (PMI) of the manufacturing sector rose to 64.7 in March. * A Reuters poll of analysts had forecast the figure to stand at 61.3 in March. * The February data had shown a level of 60.8. * An index reading indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector (which accounts for around 10% of the US economy), while below it points to contraction. * The ISM sub-index of prices paid fell to 85.6 in March. A Reuters poll of analysts had forecast this sub-index to stand at 85.0 in March. * The data on prices paid for February had shown a level of 86.0. * The ISM indicator for employment in the manufacturing sector rose to 59.6, compared to a level of 54.4 in March.
