Luxembourg will open stores again from January 11th – Saarland

Luxembourg – Great loosening of the lockdown among our neighbors! Retail, hairdressers, sports and cultural institutions are expected to reopen from Monday, January 11, subject to strict hygiene requirements.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Health Minister Paulette Lenert announced on Tuesday after a meeting of the government council. Reason: The number of new infections in the Grand Duchy has decreased from an average of 550 to 167 per day since the beginning of December.

Bettel: “The situation is mixed and remains tense, but the trend is pointing in the right direction.” The legislative texts for the easing are due to be passed in parliament this week.

Gastronomy stays closed

But: Hotels, restaurants and pubs will remain closed until January 31st.

The strict contact restrictions also remain: a maximum of two people from another household are allowed to visit. And: Mask requirement and two meters distance for gatherings of more than four people.

Since Christmas there has been a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. This will be postponed to 11 p.m.

Psychologically, people suffer from lockdown

When deciding on new rules, it was also taken into account that more and more people were suffering psychologically from the consequences of the restrictions, said Bettel. “These problems should not be underestimated.”

In the clinics, the number of Covid 19 patients was currently falling, but that of the mentally ill was increasing.
