Los Angeles Lakers retaliate against Raptors for loss to Clippers

The Los Angeles Lakers kicked off their five-game road trip with a win (110-101) on Tuesday visiting the Toronto Raptors. The reigning NBA champions managed to overcome the loss to their Los Angeles rival LA Clippers last Sunday, to add an important victory.

“Today our performance reflected our temperament, how angry we were after Sunday’s loss. We were coming on a long journey after that game and we were all angry about how things turned out. Our mentality was to go out and take it out on the Raptors and stuff. We did. We had great ball movement and fierce defensive disposition, “shared coach Frank Vogel.

The Lakers offense, without LeBron James or Anthony Davis, managed to connect again and seven Los Angeles players finished in double digits. Also, Markieff Morris, Marc Gasol and Devontae Cacok were dominant on the board with 9, 9 and 8 rebounds respectively.

Those led by Frank Vogel focused on moving the ball, Dennis Schroder and Talen Horton-Tucker were great architects of it with 9 and 6 assists.

Marc Gasol had one of his best nights wearing the purple and gold uniform. The Catalan pivot finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks in 28 minutes played against his former team. Gasol said he is committed to the team, even though he knows his minutes will decrease and he will leave the starting lineup once Andre Drummond, the Lakers’ new hire, recovers. Drummond is expected to start Thursday on his return to the court.

“I’m going to stay smart. I am fully committed to this team. I’ll be ready when they call me in no matter what happens. Whether it’s 5 minutes, 10 minutes in the role that I play, even if there are nights that I don’t have to play, I’ll continue to be ready, ”Gasol said after the victory.

Montrezl Harrell was expelled from the game, following the altercation that arose between Schroder and OG Anunoby. Anunoby dropped Schroder with a fighting maneuver after a play in which the Los Angeles guard marked OG. For this reason, an annoying Harrell defended his partner, pushing OG away. Both Harrell and Anunoby went to the showers early.

“We are brothers, family. I went to the locker room after he was expelled and told him that I appreciated him and that I would do the same for him,” shared Schroder about what Montrezl did.

On Tuesday, the Lakers announced another signing. This is Ben McLemore from the Houston Rockets. McLemore participated in 32 games for Houston this season averaging 7.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 16.8 minutes per night.

“In the postseason series we had against Houston last year, we had to know where (Ben) was on the floor at all times because he is an elite shooter. We are trying to repeat a championship so between more power and weapons to attack. we can add up, we will. Ben elevates our ability to hit 3-pointers instantly at the back, especially when we have teams that double the mark, “Vogel said.

McLemore will travel to Miami tonight to join the team and would be available to participate in the Los Angeles Angels’ next game against the Heat on Thursday, if so arranged by Vogel.
