LG has decided leave the smartphone market, closing their mobile phone division and announcing that they will not launch or create any more phones. But what about the devices that are already in the hands of the users? The answer is: dit depends on which.

The South Korean company has announced that they will continue to make security and even operating system updates for their devices for a limited time. However, they also plan to update some from their smartphones to the next version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 12, although for now they have not specified which phones will be the lucky ones to receive the new version.

“An update to Android 12 ewill be available for select devicestwo ”, mentions the company, so we will have to wait to find out who will be chosen. But beyond the new version of Android, there is a question of what will happen to current devices and how long they will support these devices, something very important specifically in terms of security patches.

LG came to create some memorable phones in the Android world, from the spectacular Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 from Google, to the interesting and Recent LG Wing. But sadly, the company failed to regain market share and had been losing mobile for years. A rival in the world of smartphones is leaving. [vía XDA Developers]
