John Hoffman (GSMA) confirms the holding of the Mobile World Congress

John Hoffman has cleared up any doubts about the celebration of the Mobile World Congress de Barcelona 2021. “See you in twelve weeks at the Mobile“, the head of the telecommunications employer GSMA, organizer of the MWC, who had to cancel 2020 edition due to the coronavirus crisis and postpone this year’s appointment until the end of June.

The next edition of MWC21, which will be held under the motto ‘Connected Impact’ (Connected Impact) of June 28 to July 1 at the Gran Va fairgrounds. Hoffman seala que “not everyone will be able to attend in person, and that is fine, since the MWC reinforces the physical event with a virtual program that allows to participate and follow the content of the fair from a distance“.

At the moment, they are a dozen companies that have decided not to go to Barcelona to avoid risks from COVID, including Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle, Intel, Facebook o British Telecom.

Security measures for participants

Participants must enter the fairgrounds with an FFP2 mask and present a negative coronavirus test carried out with a maximum notice of 72 hours. The GSMA has agreed with the Spanish Government to facilitate the entry to Spain of visitors from outside the European Union so that they can participate in this year’s edition of the MWC.

Although there is currently a denial of entry to Spain for any citizen of a country outside the EU due to the pandemic, the GSMA and the Ministry of the Interior have agreed take advantage of the exception made for “highly skilled workers”, so that those registered to participate in this year’s Mobile, whether exhibitors, attendees, sponsors or partners, will be included in that category.
