The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, highlighted that the increase in hospitalizations for Covid-19 It is not happening only in the Valley of Mexico or in the country, but in other parts of the world, where they have also taken measures to decrease mobility and have closed some economic activities, to reduce infections.

“In Germany there was a second wave more intense than the first, in Russia it has been increasing, in the United States in the United Kingdom, in Brazil, in Colombia and in some other parts of the world and in all of them measures of decrease in mobility and closure of economic activities to reduce infections, “he said.

He recalled that the city is on a red light and there are currently 5,848 people hospitalized in the more than 60 public hospitals and some private ones in Mexico City.

In a video posted on her social networks, the local president highlighted that in the last month the City’s hospital capacity has grown by 37%, going from 5 thousand 355 beds in the last 15 days, since December 15, to about 7,377.

“This is thanks to the support and coordination with the government of Mexico, through the IMSS, the ISSSTE, the Institute of Health for Well-being, the Secretary of National Defense, from Marine Secretary, of our Health Secretary in the city and also the support of the private initiative in the temporary unit ”, he stated.

He commented that the growth of the infrastructure would be of no use, if there were no health professionals attending to Covid patients, for which he thanked the capital’s health personnel and all those who have come from different parts of the country and the world to supporting the inhabitants of the city, “their solidarity, their dedication moves us and we will always be eternally grateful”.

“And precisely, the good thing is that it is they, the health professionals, who are already receiving the first vaccines in our country for them, for them, I make a new call to the inhabitants of the city. This is the situation we find ourselves in, but it depends on the actions that each one of us do every day so that we can reduce infections and not reach the maximum hospital saturation, “he said.

Being at December 31, Sheinbaum Pardo took the opportunity, “even in this difficult circumstance”, to wish the best for next year to the citizens of the capital.

“Always remember that the most precious thing in health, our city is great for its people, its solidarity and I have no doubt that we are going to move forward together,” he concluded.
