In Austria – Germans fall 100 meters to their deaths

Terrible accident in Austria!

Scharnitz – During a mountain tour, a 52-year-old German fell to her death in the Tyrolean Karwendel Mountains near Scharnitz – under the helpless gaze of her companions.

The woman was traveling with three other Germans when she apparently lost her balance on Saturday, the police said on Sunday.

According to the “Österreichischer Rundfunk” (ORF), the group was near the Karwendelhaus, an alpine hut, at around 4.40pm. There an ascent is secured with a wire rope.

Then the accident happened: the mountain hiker had two hiking sticks in her hands and wanted to grab the steel cable. In order to be able to grab hold of, the German then took both sticks in her left hand – but according to the information she was lying on her back.

The woman fell about 100 meters over steep, rocky terrain. The companions and guests of the alpine hut had to watch the accident – and immediately called the emergency number.

But the police helicopter was only able to recover the woman’s body. The fellow hikers of the 52-year-olds were then mentally cared for.
