Hyundai Kona N, all the secrets of the new sports SUV

Hyundai Kona N, all the secrets of the new sports SUV

Just as the ‘M’ is a source of joy at BMW, Hyundai has managed to generate the same sensations with the ‘N‘. His family of sports cars expands again with the Hyundai Kona N, the first SUV in the range, offering high performance in a small bottle.

And it is that under his muscular hood he hides a gasoline engine 2.0 turbo 280 hp and 392 Nm, associated with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive system (all-wheel drive has been ruled out even in the future). Thanks to this configuration, it reaches 100 km / h from a standstill in 5.5 seconds and announces a top speed of 240 km / h.

We tested the Hyundai Kona N on the track: sportier than SUV!

Its spirited engine is not the only element that gives a good account of its sportiness, since it has a plethora of elements that point in that direction. It has Launch Control, mounts high-performance brakes, has an electronic limited-slip differential and has three very interesting functions: N Grin Shift (increases power to 290 hp for 20 seconds), N Power Shift (reduces the loss of torque when fully depressing the accelerator) and N Track Sense (optimizes gear changes according to the driving being carried out).

The Korean brand wanted to show that sportiness from the first glance, something that is clear since it is the most muscular Hyundai Kona seen to date. The front is more aggressive, the grille and air intake are larger, the bumpers are specific, the bodywork is painted in the exclusive color Sonic Blue, accents in red tone are present in the underbody, the forged wheels are 19 inches, the diffuser houses two large tailpipes and the spoiler that crowns the rear integrates the triangular brake light characteristic of the N family.

The cabin also has a slightly sportier design, but somewhat more restrained. Thus, there is no lack of seats that gather more occupants, the metal bottom bracket or the blue contrasting stitching; And, as the top of the range that it is, it has a Head-up Display and 10.25-inch screens for the instrument panel and center console.

It has not been announced when the Hyundai Kona N will be launched on the market, nor has it been revealed what will be its price. However, logic suggests that your rate should be between the price of the i20 N and the i30 N.
