Tegucigalpa, Apr 25 (EFE) .- The deaths in Honduras from covid-19 have already reached 5,100 since March 2020, while the infections 206,381, reported this Saturday the National Risk Management System (Sinager).

In its daily report, the state body indicated that five new deaths have been confirmed, with which the figure rises to 5,100.

He added that of 2,374 new laboratory tests processed, 685 tested positive, for a total of 206,381 since the pandemic of the deadly disease began to spread.

The Sinager also reported 1,178 Hondurans hospitalized due to covid-19 nationwide, of which 605 have a stable condition, 507 are serious and 66 in intensive care units.

The Central American country, of 9.5 million inhabitants, has vaccinated less than 1% of its population.

Various sectors of the country demand the Government to speed up the vaccination process because the pandemic continues to affect the high number of deaths and illnesses, in addition to the damage that all the productive sectors that drive the economy continue to suffer.

Honduran Foreign Minister Lisandro Rosales arrived in Moscow on Saturday on an official visit to reach an agreement aimed at Russia speeding up the delivery of 4.2 million Sputnik V vaccines to the Central American country, an official source in Tegucigalpa reported.

Both countries signed an agreement for the supply of 4.2 million doses of the Russian vaccine, according to the Honduran government reported in early March, which meant for many sectors that they would begin to arrive that same month.

But so far Honduras has only received 6,000 Sputnik V vaccines, on the 16th, which have already begun to be applied, in their first dose, to 3,000 people in the health system in three regions of the country.

In a statement, the Tegucigalpa Foreign Ministry indicated that Rosales arrived in Moscow “on an official visit to address issues of common interest between Honduras and the Russian Federation, with the priority of reaching an agreement for the faster delivery of the anti-Covid-19 vaccines. , Sputnik V, which the Honduran government bought. “

Honduras has also received 48,000 AstraZeneca vaccines, out of 428,000 donated under the Covax mechanism promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), of which two other deliveries are expected in early and late May, according to health authorities.

In addition, in February he received a donation from Israel of Moderna vaccines, which have already been applied in two doses to 2,684 people, all from the health system.
