“Historic day”, said the Minister of Health at the beginning of the distribution of the Sputnik vaccine
The 300 thousand doses of the Sputnik V vaccine that arrived in Argentina on December 24 will finish being distributed this Monday throughout the country, as part of an operation agreed between the national government and the 24 provinces to immunize the prioritized population from coronavirus.
The first delivery of the vaccines, from Russia, left at 4 in the morning this Sunday from the central depot in the Buenos Aires city of Avellaneda, according to the Ministry of Health.
The doses are transported to each province through the Andreani company refrigerated trucks, except in the case of Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz, where, for reasons of distance and insularity, they will arrive by plane.
“Historic day. Today we begin the distribution of the Sputnik vaccine to reach each Argentine province, with federal, equitable and proportional logistics,” González García announced today.
“As from the first day we work for a federal country with an equitable distribution. #ArgentinaUnida,” the head of the health portfolio tweeted.
“This morning the trucks began to leave to distribute the vaccine. At night the last ones leave, who are those who go to Entre Ríos, Rosario, Buenos Aires. Tomorrow morning the vaccines will be available throughout the country, ”González García later told Radio 10.
The official added to the station that the country has bought “51 million vaccines and we want to buy 20 million more.”
“We continue looking for vaccines, yesterday I had a talk with more providers. We want to reach very high immunity levels. With the first immunity, we will reduce mortality ”.
Regarding prevention, González García reaffirmed: “the only concrete, effective and real recipe is to take care of yourself, isolation, put on a mask. In the same way that I have hope with the vaccine, we have to be careful, until it is arrived at a high level of vaccination, the virus continues to exist. I am afraid that since the vaccine is already in place, people will think that this has already happened.
For the transfer a cold chamber conditioned to 20 degrees below zero is used.
For the transfer, a specially conditioned cold room is used at a temperature of 20 degrees below zero, according to Andreani in a statement.
The company, in charge of distribution throughout the country, indicated that the vaccines “were introduced in cold preservatives of 60L capacity, refrigerated at a temperature below 18 degrees below zero, through a combination of eutectic plates and dry ice. “.
“Each conservator carries a DataLogger to certify that the appropriate temperature conditions have been maintained throughout the logistics process”, Andreani added through a publication on his social networks, where he specified that the vaccines travel in “exclusive semi-trailers” that will reach the provincial capitals “within 24 hours nationwide” and “with simultaneous deliveries.”
Once the distribution in each province is finalized, on Tuesday at 9 o’clock the national vaccination plan will formally begin in around 8,000 vaccinations throughout the country, according to what was agreed between President Alberto Fernández and the 24 governors in a teleconference that was held last Saturday.
With a staggered application and through new stages throughout January and February, the campaign “promises to be the largest in the modern history of the country,” according to the President.
The first vaccines left at 4 in the morning on Sunday towards the provinces.
Fernández highlighted this Sunday that Argentina is part of the group of “less than 10 countries around the world” that will begin to vaccinate against the coronavirus before the end of the year, and asked to be “cautious” and not “get carried away by a war at times geopolitical and at times commercial “between the laboratories of the world.
The Ministry of Health reported in a statement that the distribution, which has “federal, equitable and proportional” logistics, was carried out according to a “quotient based on the number of doctors and health centers authorized, and the priority of this item is health personnel “.
In this sense, the province of Buenos Aires will receive 123,000 vaccines, Santa Fe 24,100, the City of Buenos Aires 23,100, Córdoba 21,900, Tucumán 11,500, Mendoza 11,000, Entre Ríos 10,100, and Salta 8,300.
The distribution has a “federal, equitable and proportional” logistics.
While, Chaco will receive 7,700; Current 6,700; Santiago del Estero 5,900; Missions 5,200; San Juan 4,700; Jujuy 4,600; Rio Negro 4,400; Neuquen 3,600; Formosa 3,400; St. Louis 3,300; Chubut 3,000; Catamarca 2,800; La Rioja 2,600; Santa Cruz 2,400; La Pampa 2,300 and Tierra del Fuego 1,300.
For his part, Defense Minister Agustín Rossi reported that the Armed Forces are “prepared for the vaccination campaign” and clarified that “each province defines the capabilities it will use” when carrying out the operation.
Thus, Rossi explained that In the provinces of San Juan, La Rioja and Tierra del Fuego there will be military regiments that will function as vaccination centers.
The vaccination will be in stages, “free, voluntary and independent of the history of having suffered the disease,” reported the Ministry of Health, which specified that health personnel will be vaccinated as a priority “in a staggered manner, depending on the risk stratification of activity”.
He also indicated that “Gam-COVID-Vac vaccines are made based on a proven platform, based on human adenoviral vectors, and require a second dose between 21 and 60 days after receiving the first dose.”
These actions are part of the Strategic Vaccination Plan that will seek to cover some 24 million Argentines of the prioritized population, free, equitable and egalitarian, in a scheme that will materialize in stages and in coordination between the public and private sectors.
