Altenburg – Mia (5), Mats (5), Darian (7) and Julia (7) are proud of their colorful school bags! The BILD aid organization “A Heart for Children” is giving the youngest flood victims a piece of normality: 47 primary school students can start the coming school year with brand new school bags in 14 days. Because many families lost their belongings in the disaster.
“School is fun because we can learn something and play with other children,” says Darian (7). Mama Caroline Lazar (28) from Dümpelfeld to BILD: “Darian would actually have got a new knapsack from his godmother. But her basement was flooded, the satchel is broken. We are therefore very grateful for the gift. “
The elementary school in Altenburg is almost completely destroyed – lessons cannot take place here for the time being. Instead, the children are now being educated in the surrounding communities, and a mobile school has also been built.
With every school satchel there was a school bag with little surprises and school supplies, such as fountain pens and exercise books.
Julia (7) explains why she urgently needs a satchel: “Otherwise I would have to carry all my books to school.” Her choice falls on a pink knapsack: “My favorite subjects are math, sports and art,” says the second grader. Her mom Mariola Lici (38) from Altenburg: “We lost our house up to the first floor, everything was full of water. For me it was a very emotional moment here today. “
The twins Mia and Mats (5) are now proud satchel owners and can hardly wait to finally go to school. Mama Marjelle Hofmann (34) from Odendorf: “Everything that we don’t have to buy ourselves now is a total relief for us!”
The “Ein Herz für Kinder” aid was made possible by the great willingness and commitment of Sven van Dyk from the association “Handwerk hilft”. He and the voluntary members of the association help people in the Ahrweiler region affected by the floods wherever they can can.
