Lewis Hamilton’s X44 team, which has Cristina Gutiérrez and Sébastien Loeb as drivers, took the first pole of the Extreme E ahead of Carlos Sainz and Laia Sanz. Three teams with problems in Q2.

The second qualifying session of the Extreme E in Saudi Arabia started at 24ºC, but with two teams less. Fast Racing watched as Stéphane Sarrazin’s accident in the morning caused irreparable damage to the chassis anti-roll structure, forcing them to abandon the Desert XPrix.

For its part, Abt CUPRA he also missed this second session, after Claudia Hürtgen’s impressive accident, although they hope to be on Sunday.

VIDEO: Impressive accident in Extreme E

The qualifying order for Sunday was based on the sum of times from Q1 and Q2. Thus, from 1st to 3rd they qualified for the semifinal (from which two finalists will come out) and from 4th to 6th they will compete in the Crazy Race in search of third and last place for the final.

Once again, the X44 team was the first to go on the tour and Cristina Gutiérrez took the controls of the Odyssey 21 E-SUV first of all this time. The Spanish driver showed her quality at the wheel and together with Loeb’s performance they scored a remarkable 11: 07.931, after the organization will lower the power to 225 kW available in the afternoon (of the usual 400 kW).

The team of Jenson Button, with the Swedish pilot Mikaela Alhin-Kottulinskand in the first place, he was 25.021 seconds behind Loeb and Gutiérrez, who were still the benchmark for the afternoon. But they were both sanctioned with 175 seconds to go over the speed limit in the driver change zone.

The third to go out on the track, Andretti United, showed how tight the championship can be by beating the JBXE team by just 0.021 seconds. After suffering a puncture in the morning, Munnings completed a great lap, although he was 16 seconds behind Gutierrez’s time. Hansen was nine seconds behind Loeb.

The ACCIONA | Sainz he was left just 12.933 seconds with the X44. Laia Sanz was nine seconds slower than Gutiérrez and Carlos Sainz was just 2,040 seconds behind Loeb.

And when the team Rosberg X Racing, the best in the morning, went out to the Saudi desert Molly Taylor He returned to offer his best version and was barely 1.7 seconds off Gutiérrez’s time. But the hit was put by three-time world rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson, who endorsed an average of 2-3 seconds per sector to nine-time world rally champion Sébastien Loeb.

At the finish line, Rosberg X took 4.67 seconds from his rivals X44 … but they went 44km / h in the speed limit of the driver change zone! This was a 60 second penalty that left the Lewis Hamilton-led team the third fastest of the day, even so.

Hispano Suiza went against the current again and decided that Oliver Bennett should be the first to go to classification 2, with Christine GZ Secondly. And both drivers completed clean laps each, which they needed to take advantage of the significant penalty to the JBXE team. Although they were 58 seconds behind Kristoffersson and Taylor, they finished 4th in Q2 after the Rosberg X sanction.

This allows them to have one more bullet in the chamber, as they will contest the Crazy Race on Sunday alongside Andretti United and JBXE for a spot in the Desert XPrix grand final.

The fight against the stopwatch is over, this Sunday the drivers will face each other wheel to wheel for the first time in search of the best line and the show is promising.
