Golden raspberry waves
Trump attorney Giuliani nominated for “Razzie”
The nominees for this year’s awarding of the Golden Raspberries have been determined. But not only actors and filmmakers have to fear, Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani also has the dubious chance of a shameful award thanks to Sacha Baron Cohen.
The lawyer of the former US President Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, has received a dubious honor: For his appearance in the satire “Borat Anschluss Moviefilm”, he was named “Razzie” in two categories for the shameful film award Golden Raspberry , nominated. The former New York mayor unwittingly took part in the film – he was lured into a hotel room and filmed by the creators under false pretenses.
The scene shows Giuliani in a compromising situation. He can be seen flirting with a young woman on a hotel bed who posed as a reporter. He seems to be putting his hand in his pants.
Giuliani had described the scene as “pure fake” even before the film was released. On the online service Twitter, the 76-year-old wrote that he had just tucked his shirt into his pants and that he had never “behaved inappropriately”.
“Worst canvas pair”
Together with Giuliani, who was also nominated in the category “worst supporting actor”, the Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova beckons the Golden Raspberry for the “worst screen couple” in the satire.
In “Borat Anschluss Moviefilm” by and with comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the Kazakh journalist Borat returns to the USA, where he is supposed to deliver a gift to the Trump administration. Together with his 15-year-old daughter Tutar, he will stop at nothing to fulfill his task. Because he has been world famous since the first “Borat” film, he has to dress up in order not to be recognized. His adventures lead to unexpected encounters with conservative Americans and well-known politicians, including Giuliani.
The Golden Raspberries have been awarded since 1981 – as a declared counterpart to the Oscars, which are traditionally awarded one evening later in Hollywood. The winners almost never appear in person to pick up the Schmäh trophy.
