The Minister of Health, Ginés González GarcíaHe assured that the Government will seek to acquire 20 million more doses of the coronavirus vaccine in order to immunize “more than 90 percent of the population.”

According to the Alberto Fernández official, “there will be a very strong demand” nationwide from the Covid-19 vaccine. “The problem that we are going to have is that they are going to want to have more vaccines than we have in the first days. We have many purchased and insured vaccines, although some say we do not have for everyone. Is a lie”, affirmed in dialogue with Radio 10.

First thing in the morning, Argentina will attend the start of the vaccination plan against the coronavirus: simultaneously they will begin to be applied in the 23 provinces and in the city of Buenos Aires the 300,000 doses of Sputnik V arrivals on Thursday from Russia.

Today the trucks with the Russian vaccine boxes left for all the districts (they will only go by plane to Tierra del Fuego and Santa Cruz). The first to receive it will be doctors.

The Government aspires to reach the autumn “with the vaccinated risk population”. For this reason, the Casa Rosada accelerated the negotiations to ensure a greater number of doses of the vaccine. And it is intended to announce before the end of the year the approval by the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat) of the vaccine developed by the AstraZeneca laboratory and the University of Oxford

“We have bought 51 million vaccines and we are looking to have about 20 million more. There we would have more than 90 percent of the population. We want to reach very high levels of immunity” said González García, who held meetings with “suppliers” over the weekend.

“With the first immunities, we will lower mortality. When we increase the number of people vaccinated, we will decrease the circulation of the virus. If the virus stops circulating, the pandemic will surely decrease,” he completed.

Over 60

In addition, González García considered that Anmat will approve “quickly”the use of Sputnik V vaccinefor over 60s, after the Russian Ministry of Health reported that clinical trials showed an “efficiency of more than 90%” for that age group.

“That will be an Anmat procedure, but surely with the documentation they will send it will be done quickly. In general, it is the same vaccine. It is not a different or new vaccine”, said.

Immediately, he added: “It is the same vaccine. In reality, the studies are already done for the entire population, but they are by groups. There are groups that were opened first because they are the majority. That happens with all vaccines, in fact, none it is authorized for those under 18 or pregnant women. This is gradual. “

Finally, the Minister of Health once again warned about the relaxation of care for the population. “The only concrete, effective and real recipe is to take care of oneself, isolation and use the masks. In the same way that I have great hope with the vaccine, we have to be careful,” he warned.

And he highlighted: “The vaccine has not yet acted. Until a high level of immunity is reached in the vaccination population, the virus continues to circulate.”
