There are incredible pictures of the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia: A huge pit is eating its way up to a village. The first row of houses is in ruins, cars and concrete pipes of the sewer system sink into the mud, the water rises at the bottom of the crater.
Erftstadt-Blessem, the village on the edge.
BILD reporter Tim Specks was able to get an idea of the destruction at the edge of the demolition. The road has broken away, it goes down many meters. “We can’t move much, the roadway at the edge of the demolition is hollowed out two to three meters.”
The catastrophe is far from over. From the gravel works nearby to the outskirts, the crater stretches like a new reservoir. More and more earth breaks off from the fields and sinks into the depths. The big worry in Blessem: Will the ground hold up or will the flood disaster get more houses?
